The City received funding from the Oregon Health Authority’s Drinking Water Source Protection Fund to develop the Source Water Protection Plan. The City’s drinking water comes from groundwater via three horizontal collector wells that draw from a shallow aquifer near the Columbia River. The Source Water Protection Plan describes potential risks to this groundwater source, identifies strategies to address these risks, presents an implementation plan for the strategies, discusses the City’s contingency plan, and considers future water sources.

The City assembled a team to guide development of the Source Water Protection Plan that consists of representatives from local organizations and technical experts. The City is also holding two public meetings to seek additional input from the community. The City held the first meeting on January 21 to share information about the planning process and the risk assessment for the drinking water source. At the second meeting on May 21, the City will discuss the draft Source Water Protection Plan, including the proposed strategies and the implementation approach and timeline. Community members are invited to ask questions about the draft Plan and to provide feedback. Community members can attend the May 21 meeting in-person at the Community Development Conference Room at City Hall or remotely via a Zoom link. Those unable to attend the meeting will be able to view the meeting recording and submit questions and comments afterwards. The draft Source Water Protection Plan is available on this webpage for review.
