The City received funding from the Oregon Health Authority’s Drinking Water Source Protection Fund to develop the Source Water Protection Plan. The Source Water Protection Plan will describe potential risks to the City’s groundwater sources, identify strategies to address these risks, and present an implementation plan for the strategies. The City’s drinking water comes from groundwater via three horizontal collector wells that draw from a shallow aquifer near the Columbia River.
The City has assembled a team to guide development of the Source Water Protection Plan that consists of representatives from local organizations and technical experts. The City is also holding two public meetings to seek additional input from the community.
