The City received funding from the Oregon Health Authority’s Drinking Water Source Protection Fund to develop the Source Water Protection Plan. The Source Water Protection Plan will describe potential risks to the City’s groundwater sources, identify strategies to address these risks, and present an implementation plan for the strategies. The City’s drinking water comes from groundwater via three horizontal collector wells that draw from a shallow aquifer near the Columbia River.

The City has assembled a team to guide development of the Source Water Protection Plan that consists of representatives from local organizations and technical experts. The City is also holding two public meetings to seek additional input from the community. The first meeting will be held on January 21 at 6 PM, and community members can attend in-person at the City Council Chambers or remotely via a Zoom link. Those unable to attend the meeting will be able to view the meeting recording and submit questions and comments afterwards.

The January 21 meeting will provide a description of the planning process and an overview of a draft list of potential risks that have been identified so far. The City invites community members to ask questions about the Source Water Protection Plan and to help identify any additional risks that should be included. The City plans to hold a second public meeting in spring 2026 to discuss proposed strategies and implementation activities and to gather feedback on a draft version of the plan.
