Dear Boardman Community,
We know City projects can impact daily travel and nearby businesses and homes, and we want the community to have a clear understanding of the process we follow. To help keep everyone informed, the City of Boardman is sharing a quick overview of how City projects move forward and why construction timelines may occasionally shift as work progresses. You’ll also find a quick status update on the South Main project included below.
For most City construction projects, the City advertises the work and conducts a public bidding process. Contractors submit bids, and the City selects the lowest bid offer. After a bid is awarded, the City and contractor enter into a formal contract that establishes the scope of work and includes a set completion date.
As construction moves forward, there are times when additional work is identified that is outside the original service contract. When this happens, the project may require a change order. Change orders can affect the schedule, and in those cases the completion date may be extended. When the schedule needs to be extended, the engineer recommends the additional time and the City reviews and approves the revised completion date.
For the South Main project, we’re excited to be in the home stretch. The final steps include roadway striping, finishing the sidewalks and ADA-accessible ramps, completing remaining lighting work, and adding landscaping and other finishing touches to complete the project with a polished, welcoming finish. Main Street will open as safety parameters are met, and access will be restored as soon as conditions allow.
