The more you know...Vegetation Management
The City is asking property owners and residents to help reduce fire risk and protect public health, safety, and neighborhood access by keeping vegetation under control. Under City code, both noxious vegetation and prohibited vegetation are considered a nuisance.
Noxious vegetation includes things like puncture vine, poison oak or poison ivy, and invasive plants such as blackberry bushes, bamboo, cacti, and Russian olive when they spread into rights-of-way, cross property lines, block travel, or create unsafe conditions. It also includes vegetation listed on the Morrow County Weed List. Agricultural crops and decorative residential landscaping are not included.
Prohibited vegetation includes:
· Grass or weeds over 6 inches tall during summer season (April 1 through October 31)
· Grass or weeds over 10 inches tall during the rest of the year
· Vegetation that creates a fire hazard
· Vegetation that blocks visibility or creates a traffic hazard
Thank you for helping keep Boardman safe, healthy, and welcoming for everyone.
MAYOR’S MESSAGE
May has arrived, and that means election time. Residents of Boardman and nearby communities will have an opportunity to express their views by voting. It is critical that if you receive a ballot, fill it in completely, and turn it in at a free delivery drop box or mail it.
The first decision facing the citizens of Morrow County is the selection of new county commissioners. With two seats available, multiple candidates are vying to fill these roles. It is recommended that residents of Boardman carefully evaluate which candidates will serve the best interests of the entire county and not their own when making their choice. Choose a candidate who wishes Morrow County to prosper, not stay stagnant.
The next issue on the ballot is about a statewide gas tax to help the state legislature fund our roads. Every one of you gets to choose whether we, as citizens, should be taxed more to help the state legislature balance its budget regarding road infrastructure.
Finally, Boardman continues to expand, bringing both challenges and opportunities. The city is wrapping up its free garbage voucher program for the month of April for residents with a garbage bill, a small effort to support community cleanliness.
Keep working on doing your part. Make sure your spaces stay tidy and keep your vacant lots safe from fire hazards.
Small town, Big Dreams. Let’s grow Boardman together and do your part. VOTE!!
Mayor Keefer
Keeping Boardman Clean...
Our community has more to look forward to with upcoming curbside recycling improvements designed to make recycling easier for Boardman households (cart delivery yet to be announced). A simpler, more consistent system helps keep useful materials out of the landfill, supports a cleaner community, and makes it easier for neighbors to do their part.
Accepted items include clean paper and cardboard, paperboard boxes, milk and juice cartons, plastic bottles, jugs, tubs and buckets made from accepted plastics, and aluminum and steel cans. Residents should place items loose in the cart, keep them empty and dry, and keep glass separate from commingled recyclables.
