Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan
Morrow County in December of 2024 adopted the Morrow County Multi-Jurisdictional Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan (MC MJ NHMP), work that was completed in cooperation with the State of Oregon's Department of Land Conservation and Development. The City of Boardman will be co-adopting the MC MJ NHMP in the near future which will maintain the city’s eligibility to apply for federal funding toward natural hazard mitigation projects. This local planning process included a wide range of representatives from city and county government, emergency management, and other affected agencies.
A natural hazard mitigation plan provides communities with a set of goals, action items, and resources designed to reduce risk from future natural disaster events. Engaging in mitigation activities provides jurisdictions with a number of benefits, including reduced loss of life, property, essential services, critical facilities, and economic hardship; reduced short-term and long-term recovery and reconstruction costs; increased cooperation and communication within the community through the planning process; and increased potential for state and federal funding for recovery and reconstruction projects.
If you have any questions regarding the city’s work on the MC MJ NHMP, please contact Carla McLane, Planning Official, at 541-481-9252 or email mclanec [at] cityofboardman.com (Carla McLane).
